It was a two busy and productive two days ending last week for Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity volleyball girls, with seven wins, which included a tourney title, without a loss to show for all their hard on-court work.

On Thursday, the Lady Dragons registered their fourth-straight Sonoma County League victory by defeating visiting Windsor 26-24, 25-9, 25-19 at Pfeiffer Gym behind senior libero Karly Burningham’s 26 digs and freshman Mackenzie Albrecht’s 13 kills.

Then on Saturday, the Sonoma spikers competed in the Dougherty Valley Tournament and claimed the tourney title with six well-earned wins, beating College Prep, Liberty and Immaculate Conception Academy (San Francisco) in pool play, before defeating Liberty in the quarterfinals, upending longtime SCL rival Analy in the semifinals, and then topping California in the finals.

Overall results from the Windsor and tourney matches weren’t available at presstime.

Comprising Sonoma’s 2011 varsity volleyball team – directed by head coach Mindy Neves and assistant coaches Brittany Anderson and Michelle Foster – are seniors Burningham, Jersey Witous, Gabby Petersen, Karissa Hess and Alissa Thomas; juniors Allyson Beckwith, Taryn Mak and Alexis Long-Am; and frosh Albrecht and Delaney Swanson.

The Lady Dragons play league foe Casa Grande tonight in Petaluma, before hosting SCL rival Petaluma in their home finale this Thursday evening, Oct. 20, in Pfeiffer Gym, with the frosh starting at 4, the junior varsity at 5, and the varsity at 6:30 p.m.
