On the heels of sweeping three games each en route to capturing last weekend’s Babe Ruth Baseball District 2 all-star double-elimination tournament titles, the Sonoma Valley 15- and 14-year-old all-star teams will now face the other district champions in the challenging NorCal State tournaments.
At Bartholomew Sports Park in Elk Grove, Sonoma’s all-star 15s – who claimed the District 2 crown with wins over Ukiah and Novato, twice – open the NorCal State championships against District 7 at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, July 16.
If Sonoma is victorious in Saturday’s opener, it will battle the first-round winner between District 3 and District 7-No. 2 at 4 p.m. this Sunday, July 17, while a tourney opening loss would drop the Valley stars into the loser’s bracket and a game against the loser of District 3 versus District 7-No. 2 at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Comprising Sonoma’s 2011 District-2-champion 15-year-old Babe Ruth all-star team – directed by manager Joe Lunny and coaches Mario Alioto and Justin Garrett – are Vincent Albano, Andrew DeMartini, Jimmy Flatt, Miles Hagin, Cole Harper, Mitch Hood, Cordell Kenniston, Donnie Krause, John Murphy, Richard Nunez, Damian Sanchez, Max Schimm, Mike Stovall Garrett Walker and Robby Woodworth.
