Sonoma all-star 15s, 14s sweep Babe Ruth D2 titles, advance to NorCal state, star 13s edged
En route to the Sonoma 15-year-old all-stars capturing the Babe Ruth District 2 tourney title over the weekend at Arnold Field, the Valley’s Vinnie Albano connects on an RBI-double.

It was a busy Babe Ruth District 2 all-star double-elimination tournament weekend for Sonoma three teams of “stars,” with the Valley’s 15-year-old all-stars hosting their tourney at Arnold Field, while Sonoma’s all-star 14s and 13s played in Keiser Park in Windsor and Sinaloa Middle School in Novato, respectively.
When Sunday night arrived, Sonoma’s all-star 15s and 14s had gone undefeated in three games apiece and were crowned District 2 champions, while the Valley star-13s won their opener, but then reached the end of tourney play after dropping two straight games.
In Friday night’s opener, Sonoma’s all-star 15s defeated Ukiah 16-6, then beat Novato 7-4 on Saturday, and then again in Sunday’s district title game by an 8-1 final score.
As District-2 champions, the Sonoma all-star 15s will compete in the NorCal State Babe Ruth championships in Elk Grove, with their tournament opener set for 10 a.m. this Saturday, July 16.
Comprising Sonoma’s 2011 District-2-champion 15-year-old Babe Ruth all-star team – directed by manager Joe Lunny and coaches Mario Alioto and Justin Weaver – are Vincent Albano, Andrew DeMartini, Jimmy Flatt, Miles Hagin, Cole Harper, Mitch Hood, Cordell Kenniston, Donnie Krause, John Murphy, Richard Nunez, Damian Sanchez, Max Schimm, Mike Stovall Garrett Walker and Robby Woodworth.

Sonoma’s 14-year-old all-stars also swept all three of their District 2 tourney games in Windsor en route to claiming the crown, including Saturday’s 9-3 and 10-0 wins over Novato and Ukiah, respectively, and their nail-biting 5-4 victory over North Bay in Sunday’s title game.
The Valley’s all-star 14s will next play in the NorCal State Babe Ruth championships in Woodland, with their tourney opener this Saturday morning, July 16.

Sonoma’s all-star 13s toppled Ukiah 14-2 in Saturday’s District-2 tourney first-round game in Novato, before being edged 5-3 in eight innings by Novato the same day, and then dropping an 11-3 decision to North Bay on Sunday.
