Sonoma Valley Footrace and Festival tomorrow; final youth soccer registration

THE FIFTH ANNUAL Sonoma Valley Footrace and Festival fund-raising event – benefiting the performing arts program at Sonoma Developmental Center – takes place tomorrow, Saturday, May 14, and includes a 5K walk/run and an advanced 10K race, both starting at 8 a.m., along with a beer and wine tasting, a car show with classics and hot-rods, food vendors, carnival games and attractions. SONOMA VALLEY YOUTH Soccer Association will hold one final walk-in sign-up session this Wednesday, May 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sassarini Elementary School, with online registration ending this Sunday, May 15. Boys and girls who didn’t play during 2009 and 2010 need to provide a birth certificate to register. Scholarships are available. Also, registration for coaches are also being taken. SONOMA VALLEY HIGH School’s football program will hold its annual

SVHS Frosh Football Camp – with an emphasis on strength training, proper conditioning and techniques for incoming ninth graders – from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 13, through Thursday, June 16, from at the school’s weight room and practice field. Participants will need permission waiver, cleats and running shoes, shorts and T-shirts. SONOMA VALLEY TENNIS Association, the Kiwanis Club of Sonoma and Rotary Club of Sonoma will sponsor the 12th annual Junior Tennis Free Summer Program for Valley youths ages 6-to-15-years-old at the Maxwell Farms Regional Park courts from 5 to 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday from June 7 through July 26. THE ANNUAL LADY Dragon girls’ summer basketball camp for ages 8 to 14 – under the direction of Sonoma Valley High School girls’ varsity hoops coach Sil Coccia – will hold two sessions from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily at SVHS’s Pfeiffer Gym, with the first session taking place Monday through Thursday, June 13 to 16, and the second session set for June 27 to 30. Camp costs for each session are $125 a camper and $100 for two or more sisters – partial-attendance fee of $30 a day. Every camper will receive a T-shirt and a high-quality basketball, and there will be numerous prizes and awards distributed during the week. Registration fliers are available at all Valley schools. THE ANNUAL FIGHTING Dragons Basketball Summer Camp for boys in third-through-eighth grades – under the direction of Sonoma Valley High School boys’ varsity hoops head coach Casey Rogina, and featuring guest instructors Tyler and Zach Tiedeman, who are former star prep players at Montgomery High School and college standouts – will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 20 to 24, in SVHS’s Pfeiffer Gym. SONOMA BOCCE BALL Association has started league play at the bocce courts south of the gazebo in Depot Park, with three nine-week sessions ending on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
