After opening with a four-run win, the Sonoma Valley Little League champion Angels pulled out an extra-inning thriller in the quarterfinals, then found themselves locked into another nail-biting battle in their quest to reach the title game of the Little League District 53 Majors Division Tournament of Champions.
Facing a tough Napa American team in last Thursday’s TOC semifinal showdown in Napa, the Sonoma Valley Angels were in a position to snare another close victory.
Unfortunately, this time the Angels came up just short, dropping a 6-5 decision, which ended their impressive TOC playoff run.
Comprising the 2011 Sonoma Valley Majors Division champion Angels were Nathan Borg, Zachary Brennan, Henry Darnell, Will Larson, Wyatt Larson, Matthew Matulaitis, Shane O'Malley, Andy Purdom, Carson Snyder, Gannon Traynor, Noah Weston-Cess, Maxwell Yankovich, manager Kevin Cess and coaches Michael Yankovich and Dan Matulaitis.
Next up for both the Sonoma Valley and Valley of the Moon Little Leagues are the annual all-star tournaments.
