A funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. today, Friday, June 17, at St. Francis Solano Church for Ignazio "Ig" Vella. Vella, a native Sonoman and renowned cheesemaker, died Thursday, June 9, at age 83. Along the way, he was a county supervisor and was head of the Sonoma County Fair.

It was appropriate and prescient to name the new Riverside Dr. bridge after Ig who not only made world renowned cheese but devoted so much of his time to all of us as a public servant. If he had an opinion or comment you could count on hearing it. He influenced several generations of Sonomans, mostly in a good way. Bon Voyage.
