Save the Maxwell Park oaks
Editor, Index-Tribune:
Recently I was going through Maxwell Park and noticed that a group of 60-to 80-year-old live oaks had been marked for removal.
I called the county parks deptment and was told by the head of maintenance that there had been an online public forum, and that the arborists working for the county had claimed that one tree was diseased and the others are fine, except they hang over the tennis courts.
I told him that if they were trimmed back the city and county could avoid any liability issue, but he disagreed. I feel that these trees are very valuable and need to be preserved, and I'm sure that many others in the valley feel the same. I think there should be a public hearing on this issue and, in the future, these online forums should be better publicized.
