SCC hosts memorial, barbecue Sunday

Sep 5, 2011 - 04:28 PM

The Sonoma Community Center will host a barbecue and live entertainment at a memorial and community gathering in the Sonoma Plaza on Sunday, Sept. 11.

A team of volunteers will setup, cook, sell, and clean up the barbecue, and proceeds will help the community center defray the financial losses incurred from the cancellation of its annual ox roast fundraiser due to rain this past June.

The community center will offer barbecue beef sandwiches, sausage sandwiches, beer, wine, soda, water, and ox roast T-shirts for sale. Steak sandwiches will cost $7, sausage sandwiches will cost $6 and beer and wine will be available for $4 ($8 with a commemorative ox roast wine glass.) Sales begin at 11 a.m. and go to 4 p.m., during which local musical groups, as well as Tommy Thomsen, will perform live music.

Sonoma Valley businesses have donated a portion of the product to be sold by SCC, including rolls from Basque Boulangerie, and beer from Olde Sonoma Public House. Sonoma Community Center Executive Director Kathy Swett said, "The community center is delighted to have been asked to participate in this important community event."

For more information about the Sept. 11 memorial and community barbecue, call the community center at 938-4626 ext. 1 or visit the website at www.sonomacommunitycenter.org.
