Finally breaking a short offensive slump, while snapping a two-game losing streak, Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity baseball boys got another complete-game mound outing from sophomore southpaw Brennan Cole and a clutch two-run homer from junior Will Rose to seize an important Sonoma County League road win.
Trailing 5-2, the Dragons rallied for four runs to beat Analy 6-5 in Sebastopol on Friday.
Along with Rose’s long home run to left field and two RBIs, Sonoma got a key RBI single by senior Kevin Deely, while Cole overcame one tough inning, in which he yielded four runs, to put seven frames in the book for the win, scattering six hits, while striking out seven and walking three.
The second-place Dragons improved their SCL record to 4-1 to keep pace with the defending champion and current first-place Petaluma, who they host at 7 p.m. tonight under the Arnold Field lights.
Sonoma will then host SCL foe Windsor at 4 p.m. this Friday, April 22, at Arnold Field.
Last Thursday, the Dragons hosted nonleague Northgate in a rained-out makeup game at Arnold Field and could manage only two hits behind another strong pitching outing by junior Michael Hernandez and ended up dropping a 10-inning 3-2 decision.
Senior Steven McGunagle paced Sonoma with an RBI single, with Rose also singling.
