Priscilla Hinck

Priscilla Dean Hinck died peacefully at her home in Sonoma, on Dec. 25, 2010. She was 86.

Priscilla was born Nov. 5, 1924, in Queens, N.Y. and was raised in Sea Cliff on Long Island, N.Y.

She graduated from Sea Cliff High School and then Berkeley Secretarial School in New York, N.Y.

She worked as a secretary in Manhattan, met her future husband, Walter, in 1947 and married a year later in 1948. Priscilla and Walter made their first home in Glen Head on Long Island, N.Y. and in 1955, the family moved to Norristown, Pa., where Priscilla devoted herself to being a wife, homemaker and mother.

Since her extended family was located in California, the family moved to Salinas in 1967 and Belmont in 1971, where she was active in the Newcomers' Club, belonged to a bowling league and learned to play golf. She also was a Welcome Wagon and Avon representative.

In 1987, Priscilla retired and moved with her husband to Creekside Village in Sonoma where Priscilla was active in the Creekside Productions, Play Readers, Garden Club and the Social Committee. She also volunteered at Sonoma Valley Hospital Cardiac Rehab, regularly played golf with the Sonoma Swingers and was active in her church.

She enjoyed travel with her husband, most notably several cruises to the Mexican Riviera, the Caribbean, Alaska and a visit to New Orleans. After her husband died in 2004, Priscilla traveled to Scandinavia to research her family heritage.

Priscilla is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Walter; parents Edith and Harry Dean Sr.; brother, Harry Dean Jr. and sister, Caryl Jones.

She is survived by her son, Roger Hinck; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Joe Murphy; grandson, Andrew Hinck-Larsen; step-granddaughter, Meredith Jorgensen; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, at the First Congregational Church of Sonoma, 252 W. Spain St. with the Rev. Nancy Taylor officiating.

Memorial contributions in Priscilla's honor can be made to the American Cancer Society, California Division, P.O. Box 24175, San Francisco, CA 94124 or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 844, Santa Rosa, CA 95402.
