Preschool teachers to be honored May 13

Apr 28, 2011 - 02:13 PM

Presentation School will be the site of the first Sonoma Valley event designated specifically to honor Sonoma preschool teachers. Hosted by the Moldovan Academy, the event will also feature a presentation from Louann Carlomagno, superintendent of Sonoma Valley Unified School District.

The public is invited to attend the event, which runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 13.

Eight Preschools from Sonoma will be honored for their outstanding contribution towards educating Sonoma's young children, including: 4C's Sonoma Child Developmental Center, El Verano Preschool, Gingerbread House, Little Shepherd Preschool, Moldovan Academy, Montessori School of Sonoma, Sunshine Nursery School and the Valley of the Moon Nursery School.

"The public school system has ways of recognizing teachers, faculty and schools. Currently there is nothing in place to recognize all the efforts of our local preschools for their contribution to educating Sonoma's young children. The purpose of the ceremony is to acknowledge all of the hard working preschool owners, directors and teachers in our town of Sonoma," said event founder and host Kathleen Moldovan, owner/director of the Moldovan Academy in Sonoma.

At this event, each school administrator will be recognized with a special award and a gift certificate donated from Readers' Books.

Each school administrator will award one special teacher with a Teacher of the Year Award. Additionally, each school will receive a $100 continuing education scholarship to award their teacher of the year. The scholarships are donated from local Sonoma businesses and families.
