Plan panel ignores neighbors

Jun 20, 2011 - 03:12 PM

Editor, Index-Tribune:

Several neighbors near the HopMonk establishment attended the Thursday, June 9, Planning Commission meeting to talk about the loud outdoor music at HopMonk. After several of us voiced our objections and gave good reasons for the Planning Commission not to allow HopMonk to continue with outdoor music, only one commissioner agreed that outdoor music is a disturbance to the neighborhood. The others just looked at each other like they really did not give a damn about the neighbors complaints and voted to allow HopMonk to continue through the summer months with the music agenda.

Clearly, the commissioners who don't give a damm, don't have to endure the continued noise. This noise is not just occasional, it is scheduled every weekend, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons and evenings.

Let me make this clear, the neighbors have no personal issues with the owner of HopMonk, Dean Biersch, but we do have issues with the noise coming from the establishment, which is extremely disturbing.

Here it is, Sunday afternoon, June 12, and we got noise, but we want our peace and quiet back. No ifs ands or buts about what we requested from the Planning Commission only to get shot down, again.

We are not quite sure what the commission does not get. We have stated clearly that this location of 691 Broadway is not a compatible music venue for this neighborhood.

We look forward to HopMonk having great success, without disturbing the neighborhood with unwanted noise.
