St. Francis Solano School will have a new principal this fall when Debbie Picard takes charge.

Picard takes over for current principal Matt Vukicevich who is returning to teaching at Cardinal Newman.

Although she may be the "new" principal for the school, she is no stranger to the community. Picard has been a teacher at St. Francis Solano since 1996 when she was hired as a first grade teacher.  Five years later, she became the sixth grade teacher in which she currently teaches religion, language arts, social studies and serves as dean of students. She has also become a member of the WCEA/WASC accreditation team and has served on a visiting WASC committee.

Both Picard's daughters are graduates of St. Francis Solano School, as is her husband.

Picard's teaching career began in 1988 at St. Rita School in Fairfax, (Marin County) where, she taught both fourth and fifth grades.

For the last year, Picard has been enrolled in the University of Marymount, Virginia, where she is in the process of completing her master's degree in administration. This program is unique in that it has a focus on Catholic school leadership.
