Pellet guns and pit bulls
Editor, Index-Tribune:
Much has been written lately in the Index-Tribune about restricting certain dog breeds because of the danger they pose. I am a retired physician who has seen his share of dog bites, but I oppose breed restrictions. The owner makes the dog's behavior.
It is also true that pit bulls have tremendous jaw strength so that if they bite, that bite could be much more serious than from other breeds. I think it is like the difference between a pellet gun and a semi-automatic pistol.
In the hands of a wise and skilled person, both are safe, but in the hands of a mean and malicious person, the more powerful pistol is more dangerous.
