Paul Eual Lasseter "Papa" passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 29, 2011. Paul was born in Augusta, Ark., on May 21, 1924, and grew up in Conway, Ark. At 17, Paul enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941 and served as a gunner on the USS Saratoga and was also a plank owner on the USS Hancock. His entire term of duty was served in the South Pacific throughout the duration of World War II until his discharge in 1945.
After serving in the Navy, he moved to Los Angeles and worked for Chevrolet dealerships until retiring in 2000. He met Jewell Mae Risley at the East Los Angeles Church of Christ, and they were married on June 20, 1952. They first lived in Pico Rivera and then settled in Whittier, in 1960. Paul and Jewell had four beautiful children: the late Pamela Jane Lasseter (passed away as an infant), the late James Paul "Jim" Lasseter (passed away in 1998) and twins, Johanna Aline Lasseter and John Alan Lasseter.
In 2002, Papa and Jewell moved to Glen Ellen, to be near their beloved grandchildren: Joseph Tague, Timothy McDonald, Jamie McDonald, Bennett Lasseter, Paul James Lasseter, Samuel Lasseter, Jackson Lasseter and twins, Mia and Sophia Curtis.
Papa and Jewell were married for 54 years when Jewell passed away suddenly in 2005. Papa remarried Alice Dickerson of Whittier, in 2006 and remained in Glen Ellen throughout the rest of his life.
A visitation was held at Duggan's Mission Chapel, 525 W. Napa St., Sonoma, CA 95476 on Thursday, June 2. There will also be services in Southern California, starting with a visitation on Monday, June 6, 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park at 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at Sky Rose Chapel at Rose Hills followed by a graveside service.
