No running of Hit the Road Jack! in 2011
There will be no 23rd edition of the popular, and mostly annual, Hit the Road Jack! 10K and 2.2-mile run and walk, which recently benefitted the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation, Sonoma Community Center and the Valley’s public schools.
Currently posted on its website at hittheroadjack.org, is the following statement from Rick Hicks, the event and race director:
“It is with deep regret that we announce that this year’s Hit the Road Jack Race has been canceled. Unfortunately, several of our key business sponsors are no longer able to lend us the same support as in prior years, and our efforts to find financial support elsewhere have not been successful. Over the next 12 months we will be planning and seeking support with the hope that we can resume the tradition of the race next year. Runners who have already registered for this year’s race will have their fees refunded.”
After a long run through the 1990s into the 2000s, the Hit the Road Jack! runs took a one-year hiatus in 2003, but came back strong in 2004.
Hopefully, that will again be the case and this worthwhile, well-participated benefit event will return in 2012.
