No need for Staples in Sonoma

Apr 7, 2011 - 05:23 PM

Editor, Index-Tribune:

This letter is directed to the Sonoma City Council.

I have lived in Sonoma for 11 years and hope to live here the rest of my life. It's a wonderful town, full of small town, friendly and neighborly attributes. These traits are what attracted me to Sonoma and what keep me living here. I would not want to live in a busier town like Napa or Petaluma , towns I considered before moving to Sonoma.

I strongly urge you to disallow Staples moving into Sonoma.

Sonoma is about living in the slow lane, small town sensibilities and supporting local businesses. Having a huge box store like Staples move into our town negates these qualities, creating unfair competition with local businesses and creating much more traffic and congestion, none of which Sonoma needs. For heaven's sake, there are Staples stores in Petaluma and Napa, both a short drive should Sonomans need something our local stores don't carry or cannot order. We have no need for Staples and it would destroy our small town characteristics.

We voted for the five of you to protect our small town values, not to destroy them. Please, please don't let Staples open a store in Sonoma.

Mikayla DeRosier
