Neil Eric Hoaglund

Neil Eric Hoaglund, son of Maxine and Morris Hoaglund, of Sonoma, passed away following a long illness on July 20, 2011. He was 60.

Born in San Francisco on November 11, 1950, Neil moved to Sonoma in 1958, and graduated from Sonoma Valley High School in 1968.

Neil married Donna Lee Geddes in 1968 and had a daughter, Francine. Neil and Donna later divorced.

Later in life, Neil met and married Phyliss McEwan. Neil was employed by CalTrans, Nicholas Turkey Ranch and Morris Hoaglund Vinyards. He also cut and sold firewood in the winters. Neil loved to fish for steelhead and trout, shoot pool, visit with old friends and meet new ones. He enjoyed gardening, especially growing vegetables and fruit trees. Neil had a great sense of humor that was a mixture of warmth and sarcasm, possessing the ability to see the humor even when he was in a "tight spot."

He is survived by his daughter, Francine (Robert) Daniel, and grandchildren, Shelby, Parker, Kaelyn, Matthew and Hallie Daniel, all of Idaho. He is also survived by his sisters, Wendy (Allen) Haas, of Idaho; Linnea Hoaglund (Dan), of Kalispell, Montana; Meredith (Chuck) Norris, of Orangevale; and brother, Dana (Carol) Hoaglund, of Rochester, Wash. He is preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Maxine Hoaglund.

Friends and family are invited to attend a combined memorial service for he and his mother, Maxine Hoaglund, at Faith Lutheran Church, 19355 Arnold Drive, Sonoma, on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at noon. Please come to the church wearing blue and white, instead of black, as they were Maxine's favorite colors.

I had the pleasure of knowing your loved one by the bank which housed his acct. He was always an unassuming man and grateful for positive dialog between him and the employee. He was always kind and always seemed grateful for his experience at the bank. I will always remember him as the man with the kind soul. I am sorry he has passed and my thoughts are with his surviving family.
