NHRA’s 1st of 2 stops at Infineon on the horizon, Wednesday Night Drags continue

 

With the 23rd annual NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350 wrapping up June in its always-exciting fashion, Infineon Raceway will be dragging through the end of July, but only in a good way as the National Hot Rod Association brings its high-speed dragsters to the Valley for back-to-back weekends.

The NHRA’s first of its two annual stops at Infineon will be its Division 7 Drag Racing taking place the weekend of July 22 to 24.

Then starting on Friday, July 29, and racing through Saturday and Sunday, July 30 and 31, on Infineon Raceway’s famed drag-strip will be the NHRA’s popular featured event, the FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals.

While Infineon prepares for the NHRA events, drag-racing continues in the Valley with the raceway’s popular local event, its Wednesday Night Drags, which take place every Wednesday through Nov. 16.

Infineon’s Wednesday Night Drags evening also includes the “Top the Cops” program for high school students – designed to help take illegal racing off the streets and bring it to a safe, legal and controlled environment – and the fast-rising motorsport of “Drifting.”

The Wednesday Night Drags are open to anyone with a driver’s license, and they can race any vehicle or motorcycle they bring to the track, provided it passes a simple tech inspection.

Gates open at 3:30 p.m. and racing spans from 5 to 10 p.m., with the cost being $25 for competitors – $15 for students with a high school ID – and $10 for spectators. Season-long passes are also available.

Infineon Raceway’s 2011 Big O Tires major events season will conclude with two top attractions – the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma taking place the weekend of Aug. 26 to 28; and the Classic Sports Racing Group Charity Challenge on Oct. 1 and 2.
