Earth-shaking, 7,000 horsepower motors, top speeds in excess of 300 mph in less than 4 seconds, shock waves that feel like bomb blasts and a seamless succession of side-by-side races decided by hundredths of a second are some of the highlights for this weekend's NHRA Nationals drag racing extravaganza at Infineon Raceway.
The top drag strip racers in the world will be on hand, along with legends such as Shirley Muldowney, "Big Daddy" Don Garlits and Don "The Snake" Prudhomme. Besides on-track action, the Sebastiani Theatre will present a Saturday night benefit showing of the film "Heart Like a Wheel," with legendary drag racer Muldowney in attendance.
A car show featuring vintage dragsters and custom cars will be held on the lawn beside Infineon's Gate 1.
Racing will continue all weekend. For a complete schedule and more details, see the story in sports.
