Midsummer all-star football Saturday

Former Dragons playing for SCL in Kiwanis grid benefit at SRHS

Hoping to some day get the opportunity to play in the annual Kiwanis Club of Santa Rosa’s senior all-star football classic, a large turnout of gridders ages 10-to-14-years-old took part in last week’s second annual Sonoma Valley Youth Summer Football Camp – under the instruction of the SVHS Dragons’ and the Sonoma Junior Dragons’ football staffs – took place last week at the SVHS practice field.

It’s time for some midsummer night football as the 38th Richard Bigham Memorial Senior All-Star Football Game – featuring recently graduated Redwood Empire high school seniors from the Sonoma County League and North Bay League – takes place this Saturday night, July 23, at Santa Rosa High School’s Ernie Nevers Field.

The Kiwanis Club of Santa Rosa’s all-star benefit grid classic kicks off at 8 p.m., with the gates opening for ticket sales at 7. Presale tickets are available through the Kiwanis game director Leonard Sevall at 546-2146, or at T&B Sports Inc., 2049 W. Steele Lane, Santa Rosa (544-2433).

 Playing for the SCL all-stars will be four 2011 Sonoma Valley High School graduates, who were 2010 all-league standouts for the Dragons – Sean Daly, Joey Casias, Omar Paz and Ray Mellinger.

Daly is a 5-foot, 10-inch, 165-pound SCL first-team all-league outside linebacker; Casias is a 6-0, 170-pound second-team all-league defensive back; Paz is a 6-2, 235-pound second-team all-league defensive lineman; and Mellinger is a 6-3, 230-pound second-team all-league offensive lineman.

Rounding out the SCL all-star roster are Casa Grande safety Makana Garrigan, quarterback Nick Sherry, linebackers Mike Ielmorini and Jonathan Cole, wide receiver Anthony Poole and tight end Tyler White; Windsor kicker Lee Aranda, linebacker Kevin Brown, offensive linemen Justin Oxford and Daniel Schenone, cornerback Lorenzo Camerena, wide receiver Kyle Smith and safety Steven Camilleri; El Molino quarterback Mike Pierson, wide receiver Joe Douglass, offensive lineman Ben Rhoades and defensive end Calvin Sandeen; Analy wide receiver Julian Titus-Patino, offensive linemen Jimmy Pitkin and Sean Benfield, linebacker Issak Olsen, defensive lineman Dallas Hamilton and running back Cooper Maloney; Petaluma safety Adam Nizibian, offensive lineman Tama Emanuele, and linebackers Spencer Neve and Casey Rodd; Healdsburg running back Carson Seanor, defensive lineman Gary Randolph, tight end George Brush, cornerback Dominic Tynan and linebacker Travis Arreguin; St. Vincent defensive end Jesse O’Keefe, wide receivers Josh Mehta and Michael Meiswinkel, and safety Connor Brown; head coach Matt Tomlin (Windsor) and assistant coaches Greg Alexander (Casa Grande), Taylor Galloway (St. Vincents), Vick Aamick (Windsor) and Jason Little (Windsor).
