Margaret Sauer
Margaret Sauer died peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2011, in Santa Rosa. Her daughter, Jill Sauer, and son-in-law, Todd Smith, were at her side. She was 92.
Margaret was born on her parent's farm in Dike, Iowa, on Oct. 19, 1918. She was the second of three children born to Peter Petersen Dall and Agnethe Kaae Dall. She graduated from high school in 1936. Within a year or two of graduation, she and a girlfriend took a vacation to Los Angeles. Neither of them returned to Iowa.
Margaret worked as a waitress at the Los Angeles Farmers Market and it was here that she met the love of her life, Egon "Bill" Sauer. They married on Nov. 1, 1941. Margaret and Bill eventually bought a home in South San Gabriel, a suburb of Los Angeles, and raised their only daughter, Jill, there. Margaret lived in this house until 1987 when she moved to San Bruno, to be closer to her young grandsons, Tristan and Zachary.
When Jill and Todd moved to Sonoma, Margaret also moved. She considered Sonoma to be "God's Country." She did not want to miss a minute of her grandson's lives - family was everything to her. Margaret was famous for her "Grandma Cookies," her opinions and her love and devotion to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
