Lyle Joseph "Joe" Baetge was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on March 29, 1936, to Charles "Red" and Mildred Baetge. He has two sisters, Faye Eraldi and Christine Baetge.
Known to family and friends as Bubba, he grew up in Sonoma hunting and fishing, playing baseball and basketball. He was a member of the first eighth grade class to graduate from St. Francis Solano and went on to graduate from Sonoma Valley High School in 1955. He married Carla Robinson in 1955. Together they were parents to Lorrie (Ron Fulton), Shellie (Tim Moore) and Matt (Janice).
He remarried in 1973 to Marion Hart Hunt. They combined their families to include James H. Hunt (Janet), T. Jeffrey Hunt (Lisa), Scott Hunt (Lisa), Dawn Hillstead (Mark) and Brian Baetge (Kelly). They now have 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Joe began his career in the grocery business and for a time owned a grocery store in Preston, Idaho. He and Marion later moved back to Orangevale, and Joe spent the remainder of his career in the oil and gas business.
They retired to Utah in 2005 and settled in Mapleton where they were living at the time of his death on Jan. 2, 2011.
