Liberal coastal California
Supervisor Jeff Stone of Riverside has proposed diving California into - I gather - a conservative interior state and a liberal coastal state. As a conservative, he would live in the former. So far, commentators have said he has been "too much in the sun," that the idea is idiotic, silly, ludicrous and so on.
But no one has dealt seriously with the reasons he gave for his proposal, including Thomas (California Focus I-T, July 12). One reason is that the state is too polarized to govern. I think that claim is at last worth discussing.
In any case I would, for one, be happy to live in a new liberal Coastal California.
