Lewis Douglas 'Doug' Davis

Lewis Douglas "Doug" Davis, 83, died in Sonoma on June 3, 2011.

A native of Sonoma County, he was born in Geyserville, on Feb. 5, 1928, to Lewis and Gladys Davis. He went to Geyserville schools and attended the University of California at Berkeley, where he studied food technology.

From there, he went to work for Italian Swiss Colony, working under Myron Nightingale, where he developed his interest in winemaking. He worked for Gallo Wine in Modesto, and soon left there to move to Sonoma and work with August Sebastiani and was the head winemaker at Sebastiani Winery for 47 years.

Doug loved the outdoors. He most enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son in Colorado. He also loved to bowl and was on several bowling leagues over the years. He was a member of SIRS Branch #41 and was a proud member and Elder of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, in Sonoma. He was a past president of ASEV (American Society of Enology and Viticulture).

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, "Jo," and by his two sons: Tim (Patti) and Ken (Barbara) Davis; by his loving grandchildren; Lance, Trever and Mari Davis and Callie Donahoe; by his three adored great-grandchildren; and his also survived by his brother and sister, Dian and Dale Davis.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at St Andrew Presbyterian Church, 16290 Arnold Drive in Sonoma, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2011.
