Let's save this big box

Being fortunate to receive my health care from the VA facility in San Francisco, I have never had the need for services at Sonoma Valley Hospital.

Due to a recent medical emergency, I am grateful I had to travel only a few minutes to obtain urge care.

During my two week stay at Sonoma Valley Hospital, I experienced top rate care from a quality facility. Being a retired RN, I have nursed in many hospitals from Maine to California, including a term in the Air Force Nurse Corps during the Vietnam War.

I have seldom, if ever, experienced the level of car and concern I received at Sonoma Valley Hospital. I understand they are in the process of improving and expanding services. Perhaps due to a lack of recent experience with, or knowledge of, the hospital's endeavors, many of us have remained on the fence regarding these proposals.

Like so many other Sonomans, I have followed with interest, amusement and occasional disgust the media's attempt to relay the harmonious and controversial proposals to upgrade and expand the hospital.

At Sonoma Valley Hospital, we may not have spa features in the bathrooms or flat screen TVs, but we have some state-of-the-art equipment. The quality of the CAT scan machines exceeds that of many larger hospital in California. The laparoscopic equipment is not only the best, but we have HD, a feature many facilities do not.

Recently recruited quality physicians, along with our own excellent team are offering advanced diagnostic and treatment procedures and working hard to improve and enlarge our hospital for the benefit of all.

My sincere praise and gratitude go to staff in all departments of the hospital, and especially to my brilliant, accomplished and compassionate physician, Dr. Scott Perryman.

I know Sonomans have an abundance of passion regarding "big-box" stores, so I say let's make every effort we can to retain the "big-box" on Andrieux Street.
