Lady Dragons turn in dominant effort in shutting out El Mo, home finale Thursday

On the heels of winning the Ukiah Tournament championship, Sonoma Valley High School’s young varsity softball girls got back to some serious Sonoma County League play and, with errorless defense, shutout pitching and productive hitting, posted an efficient 8-0 win over visiting El Molino last Thursday at the high school field.
Sparking the triumphant Lady Dragons were junior pitching ace Megan McNeilly, who threw a four-hitter with three strikeouts and one walk pitching of and a combined six-hit effort by sophomore Ashley Vail and freshman Lindsey Rocha.
Sonoma was led offensively by Rocha’s three-for-three, including a triple, double and two RBIs; Vail’s three-for-four with a double and RBI; sophomore Riley Ellis-Reis’ two singles; sophomore Juliana Gutierrez’s and frosh Amber Rose’s single and two RBIs each; and senior Mia Stornetta’s single.
The Lady Dragons travel to Sebastopol today for a crucial SCL showdown with defending champion and first-place-tied Analy, before hosting longtime league foe Casa Grande in their 4 p.m. home finale this Thursday, May 12, at the high school field.
