Hoping to pull-off an upset and post a win in their home finale, Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity softball girls held perennial Sonoma County League power Casa Grande in check behind junior pitcher Megan McNeilly and their defense for five innings of last Thursday’s game at the high school field.

Trailing 1-0, the young Lady Dragons – who honored Mia Stornetta, the only senior on the roster, before the first pitch – couldn’t muster an offense, let alone a hit for six innings, and Casa finally broke through with a mix of hits and errors which plated seven late runs en route to an 8-0 win.

After constantly striking out for five innings, Sonoma started making contact with no results until its lone hit, a single, came off the bat of freshman Lindsey Rocha in the seventh frame.

The Lady Dragons end regular-season play this afternoon at Windsor.
