Lady Dragons defeat El Mo, capture SCL tri-title
Sonoma spikers open SCL tourney at Petaluma tonight
Senior Gabby Petersen, seen making a play at the net during the Lady Dragons’ earlier win over El Molino at Pfeiffer Gym, had a team-high 12 kills as Sonoma defeated the Lion girls last Thursday night in Forestville, which earned them a piece of the SCL title.

The scenario of needing to win their Sonoma County League match while receiving help from another league-showdown in order to snare a piece of the SCL crown played out perfectly for Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity volleyball girls.
In their regular-season finale last Thursday night in Forestville, the Lady Dragons dropped the first set, but then defeated longtime rival El Molino the next three to win the match, which, coupled with Analy’s victory over Petaluma, earned them an SCL tri-title, shared with Analy and Petaluma.
Next up for the tri-champion Sonoma spikers is the SCL Tournament, which they open, unfortunately as a third-seed because of drawing the lowest tie-breaking number of the three teams decided at a preseason coach’s meeting, and they play at second-seed Petaluma in tonight’s 7 p.m. tourney opener.
If the Lady Dragons win tonight, they play for the SCL tourney title at 7 p.m. this Thursday evening, Nov. 3, at the highest-seeded team.
Leading the Lady Dragons to their 27-29, 25-13, 25-17, 25-14 triumph over El Molino were senior Karly Burningham’s 35 digs; senior Jersey Witous’ 24 digs and five solo and two assisted blocks; freshman Mackenzie Albrecht’s 23 digs and 11 kills; senior Gabby Petersen’s 12 kills and three solo and three assisted blocks; frosh Delaney Swanson’s nine kills; and junior Allyson Beckwith’s three solo blocks and one assisted block.
