At least two times a season, if not more often, for two decades, one of the biggest rivalry matches in the Sonoma County League, as well as the Redwood Empire, is when Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity volleyball girls face nemisis El Molino, with a majority of their showdowns being close, tense and usually end up going to the wire.

But this year’s first SCL matchup between the two schools turned into a surprising one-sided result as senior setter Jersey Witous’ all-over-the-court play fueled the Lady Dragons to a 25-14, 25-18, 31-29 sweep of El Molino last night in Pfeiffer Gym.
Sonoma’s varsity soccer girls hosted longtime SCL rival Analy under a steady rain last night at Arnold Field and, after an exciting battle in the mud, fell short by a 5-3 margin.

Also playing yesterday were Sonoma’s golf and tennis girls, who dropped SCL home decisions to Casa Grande and Petaluma, respectively.
