Lady Dragon golfers, netters fall short, play home matches today

The rough road through the tough Sonoma County League continued for Sonoma Valley High School’ girls’ golf and tennis teams, who dropped SCL home and road decisions, respectively, last Thursday.

At the Sonoma Golf Club, the Lady Dragon golfers were upended 287-312, and were paced by junior Jordann Dagner’s nine-hole round of 51, sophomore Jacquie Peterson’s 61, junior Allison Cogbill’s 63, senior Kamryn Barker’s 67, and junior Grace Peterson’s 70.

The Lady Dragons host SCL rival Casa Grande at 3:30 p.m. today at SGC, before hitting the league road this Thursday, Oct. 6, to face Petaluma at the Rooster Run Golf Club.

Sonoma’s tennis girls were toppled 6-1 at Windsor, with their only win again provided by sophomore Michelle Stovall and freshman Cecilia Montano, who beat Nina Mendina and Maja Leonoudakis 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

Sustaining Sonoma’s losses were junior Courtney Struthers’ 0-6, 0-6 to Devon Brook at No. 1 singles; junior Jessica Johnston’s 1-6, 1-6 to Mariah Steiger at No. 2 singles; junior Anna Robles’ 0-6, 0-6 to Leah Steiger at No. 3 singles; senior Corinne Labitzke’s 0-6, 0-6 to Zoe Brook at No. 4 singles; juniors Francesca Stornaiuoio’s and Regina Mellinger’s 0-6, 0-6 to Casey Carpenter and Stephany Del Greco at No. 1 doubles; and senior Sophie Howard’s and junior Raquel Rios-Gomez’s 1-6, 1-6 to Julie Nguyen and Melaina Legasti at No. 2 doubles.

The Lady Dragon netters host SCL rival Petaluma at 3:30 p.m. today on the high school courts, before traveling to Sebastopol this Thursday, Oct. 6, to play league foe Analy.
