Kaniv students offer cultural events
ANASTASIYA ROZVADOVSKAYA and Lina Gaiduk, with their teacher, Alina Kharcheno are visiting Sonoma from Kaniv, Ukraine.
For the first time since the 1990s, exchange students from Ukraine are visiting Sonoma.
They are accompanied by their teacher, Alina Kharcheno, who participated in the earliest exchanges between Sonoma and Kaniv.
The students will be staying in Sonoma Valley homes, attending SVHS for the two weeks after spring break and are here through April 18. They want to make a contribution to the community by offering four events that are open to the public.
The public is invited to a potluck reception to welcome them at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, in the Bear Flag room of the Best Western Sonoma Valley Inn, 550 Second St. W. This event is family friendly, and there is no charge.
They will also lead a photo and sketch walk around the Plaza at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 7. On Saturday, April 9, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., they will teach workshops on making Ukrainian Easter eggs at the Sister Cities' headquarters, the Marcy House, 205 First St. W. next to the Police Station. And at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 10, they will present a Ukrainian Dance and Cultural Exhibition at the Sonoma Ballet Conservatory, 561 Broadway.
