Jeanne Sutherland Lyons

Jeanne Sutherland Lyons died June 27, 2011, in Santa Cruz, Calif. She was 88 years old.

Born in Alameda, Jeanne was a longtime resident of San Francisco and Sonoma. She was a woman with a strong commitment to her community. Her long-term service as a volunteer in hospital administration included consumer advocacy, bioethics and the creation of one of the first hospice programs in San Francisco.

She is survived by her sons Geoffrey Lyons, of Santa Cruz and Roby Lyons, of San Luis Obispo; and her brother Robert Sutherland, of Walnut Creek. She was predeceased by her husband Franklyn H. "Jeff" Lyons and her daughter Katherine Lyons. Her love of music and beautiful voice will be missed by many.

A memorial is set for Saturday, July 9, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 275 E. Spain St., Sonoma.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local hospice.
