Jacob R. Schumann, also known as "Jake," 77, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at home with his family. He died of cancer.

Born Jan. 4, 1934, in Spicewood, Texas. His family moved to Schellville in 1942. He was the seventh son of Alex and Ima Schumann. His six older brothers were Roy, d. of Houston, Texas; Douglas, of Arizona; Archie, of Sonoma; Howard, d. of San Pedro; Damon, d. of Redding and Oliver, d. of Carson; as well as four younger sisters, Anna, of Vallejo; Nada, d. of Sonoma; Dorothy, of Oliverherst; and Jean Marie, d. of San Pablo.

He was a graduate of Richmond High School and a member of the Teamsters Warehousemen Local 315 of Martinez, employed by United Grocers for almost 30 years at retirement.

His hobbies included Bible study, gardening, cooking and helping friends and family.

Jake married Carol Pearson in 1962, had five children - Love Renee, of Sonoma; Leanne Christine and Jermone Baker, of Sonoma; James Alexander and Sadra, of San Bernardino; Paulette Monique and Lee Tomasello, of San Rafael and Jeremiah Daniel; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as 42 nieces and nephews.

He was loved by man and will greatly missed for his wonderful sense of humor and love of God.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 23, at noon, 951 Fifth St. W., Sonoma.
