Infineon’s Wednesday Night Drags, Camp for a Cure, youth tennis Halloween PlayDay, CYO hoops

INFINEON RACEWAY’S 2011 major-event season recently ended, but Infineon’s popular Wednesday Night Drags – including the “Top the Cops” program and “Drifting” – continues every Wednesday through Nov. 16. THE EIGHTH ANNUAL baseball “Camp for a Cure” for players ages 8 to 15, will take place at Casa Grande High School in Petaluma on Sunday, Oct. 23, with all the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society, the Lupus Foundation of America, and the American Diabetes Association. Directing the camp includes Sonoma State University head coach John Goelz; Santa Rosa Junior College head coach Damon Neidlinger; former Rancho Cotate High School star and current Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Brandon Morrow; and former Sonoma Valley High School standout, SSU All-American, Oakland A’s draftee and player, and current pro-baseball minor leaguer Tommy Everidge. SONOMA VALLEY TENNIS Association is hosting a Halloween PlayDay for boys and girls ages 6-to-14-years-old – the Quickstart play format will be used – from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Oct. 30, at the Maxwell Farms Regional Park courts, and the kids are encouraged to wear costumes, with a prizes to be awarded for the best costume. Also, the SVTA is offering fall adult and re-entry free clinics from 3 to 4 p.m. every Saturday in October at the Maxwell Park courts.

 

SONOMA’S ST. FRANCIS CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) basketball program for third- through eighth-grade boys’ and girls’ teams is currently holding 2011-12 season registration for all returning and new players. SONOMA AQUATIC CLUB is beginning its fall swim programs for ages 3-months-old to adults at the SAC site, 17350  Vailetti Drive. The programs include swim lessons (ages 3-and-older); stroke school (ages 5-and-older, deep-water safe); Sea Dragon swim team (novice/competitive – ages 5-and-older); junior lifeguard camps (ages 7-to-14); parent and tot water classes (ages 3-to-36 months); and adults and masters swim programs. There are also water polo clinics and fall fun-nights for ages 7-to-15 and adult categories. SONOMA BOCCE BALL Association has started summer league play at the bocce courts south of the gazebo in Depot Park, with the nine-week league sessions ending on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
