Infineon next hosts Sonoma Historic Motorsports Fest; Bottomfeeders golf tourney on horizon

INFINEON RACEWAY OPENED its 2011 Big O Tires major events season with a weekend of West Coast Moto Jam AMA Pro Road Racing and will next host the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival on Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and 5, followed by Infineon’s most-popular and attended spectacle, the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR weekend from June 24 through 26. Rounding out Infineon’s major events for the year are the NHRA Division 7 Drag Racing weekend of July 22 to 24; the FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals from July 29 to 31; the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma weekend of Aug. 26 to 28; and the Classic Sports Racing Group Charity Challenge on Oct. 1 and 2. MURPHY’S IRISH PUB’S 15th annual Bottomfeeders Open Golf Tournament will take place at Oakmont’s West Course in Santa Rosa on Friday, May 27, and it will once again benefit Vintage House in Sonoma. Tournament entry fee is $160 a player, or if you sign up for a foursome, the cost is $600 for the group, and includes golf with cart, a sleeve of golf balls, a tee-prize, as well as a box lunch, beer and other refreshments. SONOMA VALLEY YOUTH Soccer Association will hold its final walk-in sign-up session tomorrow, Wednesday, May 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sassarini Elementary School. SONOMA VALLEY TENNIS Association will hold its Rally For The Cure Round Robin Doubles Tennis Tournament to benefit the Susan G. SONOMA VALLEY HIGH School’s football program will hold its annual

SVHS Frosh Football Camp – with an emphasis on strength training, proper conditioning and techniques for incoming ninth graders – from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 13, through Thursday, June 16, from at the school’s weight room and practice field. Participants will need permission waiver, cleats and running shoes, shorts and T-shirts. SONOMA VALLEY TENNIS Association, the Kiwanis Club of Sonoma and Rotary Club of Sonoma will sponsor the 12th annual Junior Tennis Free Summer Program for Valley youths ages 6-to-15-years-old at the Maxwell Farms Regional Park courts from 5 to 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday from June 7 through July 26. THE ANNUAL LADY Dragon girls’ summer basketball camp for ages 8 to 14 – under the direction of Sonoma Valley High School girls’ varsity hoops coach Sil Coccia – will hold two sessions from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily at SVHS’s Pfeiffer Gym, with the first session taking place Monday through Thursday, June 13 to 16, and the second session set for June 27 to 30. Camp costs for each session are $125 a camper and $100 for two or more sisters – partial-attendance fee of $30 a day. Every camper will receive a T-shirt and a high-quality basketball, and there will be numerous prizes and awards distributed during the week. THE ANNUAL FIGHTING Dragons Basketball Summer Camp for boys in third-through-eighth grades – under the direction of Sonoma Valley High School boys’ varsity hoops head coach Casey Rogina, and featuring guest instructors Tyler and Zach Tiedeman, who are former star prep players at Montgomery High School and college standouts playing professionally in Europe – will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 20 to 24, in SVHS’s Pfeiffer Gym. SONOMA BOCCE BALL Association has started league play at the bocce courts south of the gazebo in Depot Park, with three nine-week sessions ending on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
