In favor of chain stores

Regarding your editorial of June 10, "The axe in the ceiling," I agree that the controversy regarding Staples imminent entry into Sonoma is completely overblown.

I, for one, would welcome a Staples store. That's because sometimes when my daughter uses her stapler, it runs out of staples. I would also like to see a glue store, a paper clip store, a thumb tack store, a light bulb store and a how-do-I-keep-my-cat-from-pooping-on-the-brand-new-expensive-carpet-that-my-wife-just-bought store.

There's nothing wrong with chain stores. Marquis de Sade could have used one.
