Horse feathers?

In response to Mr. Chambers' letter in last week's paper, expressing outrage at the use of "bit pulls," I can assure him that neither he nor your readers have anything to worry about with regard to the devices as he described them. I referred the matter to a long-time acquaintance, Dr. Clyde. S. Dale, a respected specialist in equine matters, and he assures me that the said "bit pulls" present no harm or discomfort to the animals whatsoever. My local veterinarian, Sherman Jeppard, of Santa Rosa concurred, suggesting that Mr. Chambers was barking up the wrong tree.
