Honoring the general
Two five-star general's flags were raised Saturday on the flag pole in front of City Hall, commentating Gen. Hap Arnold's 125th birthday on June 25. From left are Nick Moline, City of Sonoma maintenance worker; Robert Arnold, grandson of the late Gen. Arnold; and Sonoma Mayor Laurie Gallian. The red five-star flag is in recognition of his rank in the United States Army (Air Corps). The blue five-star flag is in recognition of his rank in the United States Air Force, established after World War II, just before he retired to his ranch in Sonoma. Gen. Arnold will be honored at this year's Fourth of July parade next Monday.
