Hie thee down to ‘Romeo and Juliet’
Editor, Index-Tribune:
Yesterday afternoon I had the great pleasure of seeing a matinee performance of “Romeo and Juliet,” as seen through the creative eyes of the aptly named Renegade Players, under the imaginative direction of one of Sonoma’s own treasures, Aidan O’Reilly.
Despite the sparse audience, this spirited troupe of performers played with such infectious enthusiasm and energy, it was as if they were performing before a sold-out house at the Old Vic. This was a highly contemporary version of the star-crossed lovers, full of fresh-faced passion, bald humor and tenderness. The fierce dueling scenes alone were worth the modest price of admission.
Sonoma is blessed with so much talent and it deserves all the support it can get. Do yourself a favor and hie thee down to the Community Center next weekend to be enthralled by the freshest version you’ll ever see of Shakespeare’s masterpiece.
