Free chipper program offered Valley residents
Editor, Index-Tribune:
Fire Safe Sonoma's "Chippers Ahoy!" program can help county residents prepare for wildfire season. We will provide free chipping services to dispose of vegetation cut by residents to create defensible space around homes.
You cut it and pile it, we'll chip it for free.
To participate, residents in areas at-risk to wildfire cut and pile small trees and brush according to program requirements. Guidelines and the chipping request form are available at www.firesafesonoma.org, or by calling Fire Safe Sonoma at 565-6070.
The guidelines tell you what can go in your pile and how and where it must be placed. When piles are complete, submit the Request for Chipping form. We will send a chipper and crew to your property-for free. The chipping program is available to all Sonoma County residents in areas at risk to wildfire.
Fire Safe Sonoma is a nonprofit corporation dependent upon grants, private donations and community volunteers.
Funding for "Chippers Ahoy!" was provided by a generous grant from the USDA Forest Service and the California Fire Safe Council.
Fire Safe Sonoma's Defensible Space Program can provide additional assistance to low income and disabled or elderly residents who need help to create or maintain defensible space. Please contact us for further information.

Hi There,
I sent in my form awhile ago and was waiting to see if you were going to do Bennett Ridge chipping at once. I have had my piles ready now for several weeks. I would like to know if and when there is a date to come to my area.
Phyllis Ribeau
my neighbors and us have had the trees and brush removed and stacked along the access drive to our properties. How and when can we get it chipped?
Caerleon Safford from Fire Safe Sonoma replies regarding brush chipping...
As of Mid-July, the turn around time for the chipper service is running from one to three weeks, but response time can vary according to how many requests come in at one time. We strive to get to your piles in a reasonable amount of time! If anyone has questions about current turn around time or issues with a pile that is waiting for the chipper, please call us directly at 707.565.6070. We have contacted Mrs. Ribeau about her piles and should have a solution soon. Thanks!
