There’s a long, rich and highly successful baseball history at Sonoma Valley High School, with numerous star players – many of them moving up to the college level, and some turning pro – and standout head coaches who have graced Northern California diamonds, along with the high school field and Arnold Field, over the decades.
For years, there’s been talk of putting together an alumni event for baseball, like the Dragons do for basketball, as well as cross country and track and field on a smaller basis.
Long-inspired by the history of the sport at the Valley high school, current Sonoma head varsity coach Don Lyons – who directed the Dragons to the 2008 Sonoma County League title and the school’s first-ever North Coast Section championship – has turned the alumni game idea into a reality.
Sonoma’s varsity boys will be holding their inaugural Sonoma Green and White Alumni Baseball Game at 5 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, April 9, at Arnold Field, with a pre-game get-together and alumni batting practice session set for 6 p.m. today (Friday, April 8).
Any Dragon alumnus still interested in playing can contact Lyons at 996-7030 or dlyons@sonomavly.k12.ca.us.
