Earlier this month, Flowery Elementary School selected fifth graders Max Handron and Celeste Rodriguez as the school’s Students of the Year.
Handron is cited by Flowery as a true dual immersion success story. Since kindergarten, Handron has communicated and learned effectively in two languages, and has shown great determination and perseverance in his studies. Handron has proven himself to be a conscientious and respectful student and classmate. His teachers praise his enthusiasm for learning, his positive attitude and a personal character marked by integrity and respect. He enjoys math and language arts at Flowery and particularly, learning those subjects in Spanish. Handron participates in Flowery’s Conflict Manager Program and after school he plays on a soccer team that will be competing in the Nor Cal State Cup next month.
Rodriguez entered Flowery as an English-learner in kindergarten, but after a few short years has now been classified as fluent-English proficient, and in the most recent testing, she scored advanced in mathematics and language arts, with Spanish skills well above the national average. Rodriquez has been reading since early in kindergarten and is described as an analytical thinker and a responsible student. She is a truly well-rounded student, enjoying soccer, the guitar, Tae Kwon Do and reading for a local radio station every Saturday morning. Rodriguez plans to attend
Congratulations to these hard-working and inspiring young students on this honor and to their families and teachers for encouraging their academic and personal success.
