Fabulous Fourth
Photos by David Bolling/Index-Tribune
Above: Uncle Sam and his patriotic companion tower over the Fourth of July parade, guided by Sonoma Community Center volunteers. The papier mâché puppets were designed by SCC Special Projects Manager Margaret Hatcher, a professional costume designer. Theme of the parade was "Saluting Our Local Heroes" and paid tribute to WW II veterans involved in the liberation of France. Among them (beneath umbrella in the photo below), was Col. James Moorehead - Army (ret.) - who took part in the Normandy invasion and received two distinguished Crosses and a Silver Star; and Jim Parks, (in back) who spearheaded the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Park.
