Edward Andrew Petersen, of Sonoma, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011. He was 63. Born in Santa Rosa, he was a retired hospital worker who had a 30-year career at Sonoma Developmental Center.
Ed was the husband of Nenita Petersen; stepfather of Jonanette Panaguiton and Roderick Panaguiton; and grandfather of Ivette Panaguiton and Andre Martinez. From a previous marriage, he was the father of Maria Teresa Petersen Kumar, of Washington, D.C.
The son of Carl and Alice Petersen, Ed was one of five brothers - Carl, Pete, John and Jerry. He was raised on the family farm in Geyserville. At the age of 19, he transferred from Alaska Methodist University in Anchorage to the University of the Andes in Bogota, Colombia, by driving his pickup with his dog from Alaska to Colombia, on the Pan American Highway. An avid traveler, he visited the Philippines with his wife, Nenita, and lived in Colombia for a decade.
Ed was known for his easygoing manner and folksy sense of humor. He was an enthusiast of Faulkner and Hemmingway, a fan of country music and the Giants, and a devoted husband and father.
Friends are invited to a celebrate of his life at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday July 16, 2011, at Duggan's Mission Chapel, 525 W. Napa St., Sonoma, CA 95476.
Private entombment will be at Mountain Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Sonoma Valley, P.O. Box 218, El Verano, CA 95433.
