Economist to speak at SCC
John Perkins
Author John Perkins will speak in Sonoma on Monday, April 11, at 8 p.m. in Andrews Hall at the Sonoma Community Center.
Perkins' "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man," which spent 70 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, is a startling exposé of international corruption. His second book, "The Secret History of the American Empire," details the clandestine operations that created the world's first truly global empire. In his latest book, "Hoodwinked," Perkins outlines a blueprint for a new form of global economics. The solutions are not "return to normal" ones. His writings detail specific steps each of us can take to create a sustainable, just, and peaceful world.
Perkins was chief economist at a major international consulting firm. He advised the World Bank, United Nations, IMF, U.S. Treasury Department, Fortune 500 corporations and countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Tickets are $15 and available at Readers' Books, by calling 939-2973 or online at www.praxispeace.org.
An opportunity to meet Perkins and enjoy dessert, wine and coffee will precede the talk at 6:45 p.m. The reception will take place at a private residence located about a half block from the community center and has an additional charge.
