Dunbar students of the year

Earlier this month, Dunbar selected fifth-graders Naomi Little and twin brothers Ryan and Reanne Valer as the school’s Students of the Year. The Valer brothers joined Dunbar in the third grade after moving to Sonoma from the Phillipines. After two years, they are almost completely fluent in English and are strong students who serve as role models for their peers, active in Dunbar’s after-school education and safety program where they are part of the Junior Staff and Torch Club leadership programs. Also, selected for the Student of the Year honor was fifth-grader Naomi Little, who began at Dunbar in kindergarten. Naomi excels academically in all areas and exhibits a true love of learning. She has consistently received honor roll, attendance and other academic awards each year at Dunbar. Her teachers describe her as “kind, helpful, imaginative, a true leader, mature, grounded and curious about the world around her.” She is the youngest of four siblings, all of whom were excellent students at Dunbar. Naomi is interested in a career in nursing and interested in the work of Mother Teresa.
Other Students of the Year will be honored as they are announced.
