Dragons open 2011 grid season hosting Terra Linda tonight
At Arnold Field, JVs 5, varsity 7:30 p.m., roster
Putting a disappointing one-win 2010 campaign far behind them, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity football boys have displayed an upbeat, positive and all-out attitude in their current practice sessions, and hope all their hard work and conditioning pays off when the games begin, which, after a bye week, will be tonight.
The Dragon varsity and junior varsity grid teams kick-off their 2011 season this evening, when they host nonleague Terra Linda at Arnold Field, with the jayvees beginning at 5 and the varsity starting at 7:30 p.m.
This marks the 28th year of Sonoma football under the direction of varsity head coach Mick O’Meara and defensive coordinator Mike Mulas, whose experience and work-ethic have made the Dragons’ poorest season in their tenure – which includes 164-128-6 overall record and eight Sonoma County League titles – a distant memory.
Comprising the 2011 Sonoma varsity football team– directed by O’Meara, Mulas and assistant coaches Damien Magnani, Mike Sangiacomo, Steve Sangiacomo, Chris Hoke, Ray Sullivan Jr. and Malcolm Sims – are seniors David Ake, Eric Clouse, Collin Clyde, Andrew DeBerdt, Joshua Heiser, Michael Hernandez, David Henry, Tyler Johnson, Josh Jones, Sam Keechler, Ronald Kohut, Sam Morgan, Chris Swanson and Jonathan Wieland; juniors Jonny Amandoli, Vincent Bruton, John Buckley, Brennan Cole, Joseph Cotter, Sam Denning, John Engebreth, Sean Forney, Aidan Lacy, Kevin Lind, Chris Lopez, Skyler Marciel, Justin McDonald, Steven McVeigh, Alex Ohan, Trevor Severson, Dustin Sloan, Charlie Stellon, Mike Stovall, Keenan Tuohy and Garrett Walker; and sophomores Dan Deely and Matthew Robinson.
