Dorvan “Larry” Estep

Local legendary bartender, Dorvan "Larry" Estep passed away peacefully on March 8, 2011.
Larry was born Jan. 16, 1940 in Ponca, Ark., where he grew up with six brothers and sisters until he joined the Air Force at an early age. After the Air Force, he landed a job in Reno, Nev., where he started his long successful career of bartending at Harrah's.
There he met and married Sharon Estep. They had two daughters and soon moved to Sonoma. Larry worked for many years at the Flamingo Hotel, The Sonoma Grove and then established a long stay at the Swiss Hotel.
Larry enjoyed fishing in the sloughs, woodworking and was known for telling jokes (not always good). After his stroke, Larry was often seen at his favorite places, including Pearl’s Diner, Safeway and the Hospital Café.
He is survived by his loving family – daughter, Cheri Larson and her husband, Scott; daughter, Lisa Dwelly, and her husband, Kevin; and his grandchildren, Katrina Dwelly and Trevor Dwelly.
We would like to give special thanks to all of the wonderful people at the Hospice By The Bay and Golden Living/London House.
Please join his family in a celebration of Larry's life at the Vintage House senior center, 264 First St. E., on Tuesday, March 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. For information, please call (707)996-7065.
