Destiny and wisdom
Editor, Index-Tribune:
It is sometimes said that humankind’s destiny is preordained. Others believe that we can alter our personal and national destiny with concentrated efforts at embracing wisdom as time passes by.
Adopting wisdom involves simplifying some of our beliefs and moving away from traditional and more complicated modes of thinking, including one popular sentiment which advocates that it is the responsibility of politicians, economists, and governmental institutions that need to improve before it is necessary on our part to begin looking inward and reflecting on what it means to be an informed and positively inspired citizen.
For an entire culture to resist or ignore the value of wisdom over a lifetime is to leave the improvement, the present stagnation, or decline of our great nation and other societies around the globe to chance, with distant generations in the future looking back and contemplating the many positive opportunities that those of us who are alive today will have overlooked.
